Ms. Shun
Ms. Shun’s passion for dance began at the age of five while attending New Generation Christian Academy in East Atlanta, Georgia. By the age of seven, she was introduced to majorette through Georgia’s Youth On Parade (GYOP) under the instruction of Ms. Starr. Although she was naturally shy, Shun quickly discovered that dance and twirling provided a powerful outlet for self-expression and helped her build confidence.
She continued her journey as a member of the Auxiliary at Jonesboro High School from 2007 to 2010, and later with Beauty in Motion at Mundy’s Mill High School from 2010 to 2011. During this time, she also became an active member of the Dance Ministry at Divine Faith Ministries International in 2011, where she deepened both her craft and her faith through movement and worship until her graduation.
After high school, Shun attended Miles College, where she became a member of the Steaming Flags from 2011 to 2013. There, she trained under Mr. Courtney Brown, a former Alabama A&M University student recognized for redefining the dynamics of traditional flag performance. While in college, she also embraced her passion for mentorship by teaching praise dance to young girls at a local church under the leadership of Rev. Johnson, who also served as her African American Studies professor.
Her dedication to dance and youth development continued to grow when her sister, Ms. Rose—a fellow GYOP alumna, regional competition winner, educator, mentor, and step and stroll master—invited her to assist with a dance and step camp for P.Y.T. (Positive Young Teens).
Together, their shared vision created a positive and empowering environment where young girls could discover confidence, creativity, and purpose through dance.
From her beginnings as a shy young twirler to becoming a performer, mentor, and leader, Ms. Shun believes that majorette and dance are far more than performance—they are tools for discipline, self-expression, and empowerment. Through her leadership, she continues to inspire young dancers to embrace grace, poise, and strength both on and off the field.
